The following are frequently asked questions related to the Finance Office:

The City departments start the budget process in December of each year. Their recommended budgets are presented to the City Manager who works with each department to ensure that the city is providing the best quality services in the most efficient and effective way. The budgets for the municipal operations and the School department are then presented to the City Council throughout April and May, with a final budget adoption in June to correspond with the City’s fiscal year of July 1 through June 30th.

The tax rate is determined by taking the final budget minus all available revenues to establish the property tax commitment. The commitment is then divided by the available city wide valuation to calculate a tax rate.
