Auburn's Comprehensive Plan

The 2010 Update of the City’s Comprehensive Plan serves as a guide for the decisions the City must make about growth, development, redevelopment, and change over the coming decade. The Plan continues the City’s established long range planning process, and creates a framework for managing future development. In many cases, the recommendations of the 2010 Plan continue the basic policy directions set by the previous Plan. In other cases, the 2010 Plan addresses emerging issues or provides a fresh look at ongoing issues.

In 2018-2019, as part of Auburn's Strategic Planning process, city staff completed a full status update of the strategies within the existing Comprehensive plan. We encourage you to take some time exploring this information hub: 2010 COMP PLAN 2010 UPDATE HUB

In 2020, a "Comprehensive Plan Update Committee" was established by the City Council. The work of this committee will be documented in an information hub, which can be viewed by clicking on the link below.

PUBLIC FEEDBACK NEEDED: Join us for a Community Conversation

Auburn continues to grow, with more than $20M worth of projects approved at the April Planning Board Meeting. However, employers are citing workforce attraction as one of their biggest challenges. As part of the city’s commitment to ensure that housing stock has room to grow, the Auburn City Council appointed a Comprehensive Plan Update Committee last fall to formulate recommended strategies on recreation, transportation, and land use changes for future growth of the city.

“The next step, before any decisions are made, is to hear from residents,” said Director of Planning and Permitting Eric Cousens. “Constructive input will help the City Council and Planning Board to be responsive to community desires.”

The City is hosting several “Community Conversations,” focused on three separate areas of Auburn. These conversations will be an opportunity for staff to share draft Comprehensive Plan recommendations for Central Auburn, North Auburn and South Auburn and to hear feedback from the community. All will be held at the Auburn Senior Community Center at 48 Pettengill Park Road.

Central Auburn:   Tuesday April 27 at 6:00PM

North Auburn:     Thursday April 29 at 6:00PM

South Auburn:     Tuesday May 4 at 6:00PM

Meetings will include an overview of proposed changes, Q&A sessions, and optional one-on-one property reviews to explain how the draft would apply in your neighborhood.
