NEW IN 2024 - Maine has transitioned from a closed primary system to a semi-open primary. Unenrolled voters (those not affiliated or enrolled in a political party) will now be able to participate in primaries and select the primary party ballot of their choice without having to enroll in that party. Voters that are enrolled in a party may only vote in that party's primary. Enrolled voters do not have the option to select another party's ballot unless they unenroll or change enrollment at least 15 days before the primary election date. A voter must remain in a party for 3 months before changing parties or unenrolling.
