Public Welcome at Council Meetings

  • July 31, 2020

After months of video conferencing, the Auburn City Council is welcoming residents back to Auburn Hall.

On April 6, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council switched to “Zoom” meetings. This adjustment was made to help protect residents, council, and staff from exposure to the virus.

Throughout June and July, Councilors and staff have slowly and carefully adjusted back to in-person meetings, although public attendance was not permitted. The next City Council workshop and meeting will be held on Monday, August 3 at 5:30PM and will be conducted in Council Chambers.
While Council Chambers will be limited to mayor, council, and a handful of key staff, attendees are welcome in Auburn Hall and will gather across the hallway in the Community Room to watch a livestream of the meeting. The meeting will also be aired on Great Falls TV (cable channel 1302) and on the City of Auburn’s YouTube channel.

Public comment is an essential part of any local government meeting. It is an opportunity for members of the public to inform the governing body about their views. Anyone in attendance wishing to offer public comment during council meetings will be invited to enter council chambers and make their remarks from the podium during the public comment session.

The City will continue taking public comment in written form from those who are not comfortable or are unable to attend public meetings at this time. Comments, including name and address, should be emailed to comments@auburnmaine.gov. Similarly, an electronic public comment form is available on the City Council page of Auburn’s website, www.auburnmaine.gov. With the exception of the August 3rd meeting, comments must be received by 3:00PM on the Friday before a council meeting and will be included in the meeting minutes.
