Audit Committee
This committee leads the process of selecting an independent auditor, pursuant to Section 8.16 of this Charter, directs the work of the independent auditor as to the scope of the annual audit and any matters of concern with respect to internal controls, receives the report of the independent auditor and presents that report to a joint meeting of the City Council and School Committee with any recommendations from the Committee and also reviews the implementation of the procurement policy and reports to the City Council and School Committee as to the strengths and weaknesses of the policy. Audit and Procurement Committee developed a Joint Purchasing and Procurement Policy. They also meet annually with the auditor’s at the beginning of the audit to voice any concerns or issues they may have or that they would like the auditors to look at and then again at the end of the audit when the report is finalized to review the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. It would be helpful if the members had some financial background and understood accounting.
