LEWISTON & AUBURN ANNOUNCE JOINT COUNCIL MEETING

In the spirit of collaboration and cooperation, the sister-cities of Lewiston and Auburn will hold a joint City Council meeting on Thursday, February 22.

The meeting, which will be held at Lewiston City Hall in Council Chambers, will begin with an informal gathering at 5:30PM. Light refreshments will be served. The workshop will begin promptly at 6:00PM.

“It will be an honor to host our counterparts from Auburn as we enter into what I know will become a new era of cooperation,” said Lewiston Mayor Shane Bouchard. “While we are two municipalities, we are one community and share many of the same goals and objectives. We only become stronger when we work closely together.”

"It’s an exciting time to be a citizen of Auburn and Lewiston,” said Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque. “The Council and I look forward to working closely with our counterparts across the river to better understand where we are, learn from past efforts and start the planning process for a community that is firmly stepping towards the future."

The agenda for the meeting will include several topics of interest to both communities. There will be a presentation by the Lewiston Auburn Railroad, during which representatives will discuss several projects that are underway or being considered.

Representatives from the Lewiston-Auburn 9-1-1 Communications System will present an update to the Councils on capital projects, including a potential radio system upgrade.

Regional tourism efforts will also be discussed during the joint meeting. The City of Auburn’s recent Sports Tourism study, the L-A Metro Chamber’s Tourism Sub-Committee, and AVCOG’s regional tourism program will all be part of a discussion to further the development of tourism efforts in greater Lewiston-Auburn.
