It is the mission of The Lewiston/Auburn 9-1-1 Emergency Communications System to serve the public and the agencies it assists by handling requests efficiently, in a non-bias, courteous manner with the best-trained professionals while striving toward a commitment to excellence.

The Communications Center is responsible for receiving calls from residents and businesses in Lewiston, Auburn and Poland for services requiring Police, Fire and Medical assistance.  It is one of twenty-six Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) in the State of Maine and the third busiest in average call volume.

Lewiston-Auburn Communications is proud to offer the CodeRED emergency notification system. 

CodeRED is a FREE service provided to all residents in greater Auburn-Lewiston that will notify you of emergency information through phone calls, text messages, e-mails, social media and the CodeRED Mobile Alert app. The system will be used to keep you informed of local events that may immediately impact your safety. As a local resident, L-A 9-1-1 encourages you to take action and register your cell phone for this service and verify your home location to receive targeted notifications that directly impact your home or business.

ACCREDITATION

The Lewiston-Auburn Communications Center is the first and ONLY nationally-accredited communications center in Maine! Our agency was first accredited in 2009, and we proudly achieved reaccreditation in 2012, 2015, 2018 and 2022. 

L-A 911 is accredited through CALEA - the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation. CALEA's Public Safety Communications Accreditation Program provides a communications center with a process to systemically review and internally assess its operations and procedures.

This program requires organizations to collect and analyze important data for the purpose of making sound operational and administrative business decisions, creating leadership and practitioner-accountability. In addition, the focus is on quality assurance, interoperability, emerging technologies, risk analysis, asset security, resources access, contemporary training, and a range of other operational functions.
