Over the past few years, Maine has seen a significant increase in immigrants and refugees, but many local healthcare organizations lack the experience and cultural understanding necessary to effectively serve that population. Our friends at Healthy Androscoggin have been connecting local health and wellness partners with cultural competency trainings and other resources through the help of a Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Grant from the U.S. CDC.
The effort, known as the REACH Partnership, has already had a positive impact on the African New Mainer community in the state. The goal is to help local providers improve their cultural competency and increase access to care for adult African New Mainers in Auburn & Lewiston.
