The Agricultural Act of 2014, also known as the Farm Bill, is up for re-authorization – and here at NRPA, we see this as an exciting opportunity ripe for the picking! Park and recreation agencies across the nation are already working to combat summer hunger and increase accessibility to fresh, locally-grown food by working with local farmers. The Farm Bill re-authorization offers a unique opportunity for Congress to recognize the role local park and recreation agencies can play in creating and enhancing community food systems. Join the NRPA Public Policy Team as we showcase park and recreation agencies’ incredible farm-to-summer programming, tools and resources provided by the US Department of Agriculture’s Farm to School team, and how the Farm Bill could mean new opportunities for positioning park and recreation agencies as key local agricultural partners.
