Take a Walk in the Park Day

  • START: Friday, March 30, 2018 4:30 PM
  • END: Friday, March 30, 2018 6:00 PM
  • LOCATION: Knight House to Sullivan Square

As we emerge from a long, cold winter, the Auburn Conservation Commission invites the greater Auburn community to enjoy a “Walk in the Park” on Friday, March 30th.

“National Take A Walk in the Park Day” is observed annually on March 30th as an opportunity for exercise and relaxation. Often calming and therapeutic, a walk helps clear the mind. It also helps re-energize and improves health.

“A walk in the park will likely be the most enjoyable part of your day,” said Auburn resident and Conservation Commission Member Tizz Crowley. “Be sure to do so with a clear mind and with your eyes open. In addition to avoiding a fall, open eyes will allow you to take in the beauty of nature's wonders: flowers, trees, birds, and wildlife.”

Auburn’s park walk will begin at 4:30PM on Friday, March 30 at the Knight House, just below West Pitch Park. The walk will meander toward Sullivan Square via the Riverwalk, Festival Plaza, Bonney Park, and the Art Wall. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk.

There will also be an early morning "Sunrise Walk" at 5:30AM beginning at the Knight House. This will be a casual stroll with our friend Mary LaFontaine - bring your camera for sunrise shots.

Auburn has many beautiful public parks, and additional “Walks in the Park” may be scheduled. A list of parks can be found here: www.auburnmaine.gov/pages/government/public-parks.
