AUBURN REVEALS LOGO & PLANS FOR SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

The City of Auburn has a BIG birthday coming up! In 2019, Auburn will celebrate 150 years as a city. During a press conference to be held on Monday, July 2 at 5:00PM in Council Chambers, Mayor Jason Levesque and members of Team Auburn will share details on this momentous, year-long sesquicentennial celebration.

The highlight of the press conference will be the “big reveal” of the City’s 150th Celebration logo. This artwork, which will be used on marketing material, hats, t-shirts, street pole banners, and in all promotional collateral, will help “brand” the 150th celebration and create a recognizable look for the community to embrace.

“We are very excited to share the new logo,” said Mayor Levesque. “The planning committee (comprised of staff and community volunteers) is already hard at work, putting together an amazing year-long birthday party that will have something for everyone!”

The logo will be unveiled by Alison Casares, Auburn’s 2018 “Citizen of the Year,” and by Auburn native and standout ELHS athlete Troy Barnies, who plays professional basketball in Hungary. Barnies has agreed to serve as an “ambassador” for the celebration and hopes to create lots of social media “buzz” around the various events.

“We have some one-of-a-kind, regionally-appealing events and programs planned for 2019,” said Auburn Recreation Director Sabrina Best. “We are committed to making our existing events extra special, and we will launch FOUR great new events, including a “New Year’s Auburn” event that will kick the year off with a bang!”

“The sesquicentennial is a wonderful chance for us to embrace our history and look to the future of our great city, and we want everyone to get involved,” said Levesque. “July 2 is where it all begins.”

Local media outlets are encouraged to attend the press conference. “We may even have some 150th ‘swag’ for the media partners who show up,” said Mayor Levesque.
