Memorial Day Holiday Events

The citizens of Auburn are invited to celebrate with us!

Saturday, May 24

9:30am - Bring the family to the Memorial Day Parade!  The route begins at Kennedy Park in Lewiston and it will continue on to Chestnut Street, Lisbon Street, and Main Street, over the Longley Bridge and around Great Falls Plaza in Auburn.  It will return and end at Veterans Park in Lewiston. The ceremony will feature stone unveiling, bench unveiling, entertainment, placing of wreaths, speeches, branches of the military songs, taps, prayer, etc.

The parade and event are being sponsored by the Lewiston/Auburn Veterans Council. For more information about the parade, please contact Willie Danforth at 777.4759.

Monday, May 26

11:00am - Experience Auburn by participating in "Decoration Day" at Oak Hill Cemetery in Auburn ("Decoration Day" was the original name for Memorial Day). Auburn residents, families, and friends from neighboring communities are invited to attend this event and give thanks to our veterans.   Presented by local veterans' organizations and the City of Auburn, this ceremony begins at 11:00am and will last approximately 45 minutes.

2:00pm - Stop by for a concert at the Foss Mansion located at 19 Elm Street in Auburn.  This free event is being co-hosted by the City of Auburn and the Woman’s Literary Union.  Larry Gowell, an Auburn native and exceptional musical talent, will be performing a wonderful array of songs to honor all veterans.  This concert is open to the public and light refreshments will be served.

For more information regarding "Decoration Day" or the Foss Mansion Concert, please contact Councilor Leroy Walker 577-2694 or email Councilor Tizz Crowley at tcrowley@auburnmaine.gov.
