National Preparedness Week: Pre-Blackout Tips
- Turn your car into a generator: buy a Mobile Inverter for your car. It can provide AC power and USB charging
- Make sure your vehicle's gas tank is full
- Stock up on water
- Fill your propane tank(s). Your grill can be used for cooking
- Keep cash on hand in case the ATMs are unavailable
- Fill freezer bags with water and freeze them. The ice blocks will last longer than ice cubes and will keep your refrigerated food cold longer.
- Make sure you have smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors that have a battery backup
- Have a battery or hand-crank radio, flashlights and lanterns in your home
- Prepare in advance a family emergency plan
