National Preparedness Week:  Pre-Blackout Tips

  1. Turn your car into a generator: buy a Mobile Inverter for your car.  It can provide AC power and USB charging
  2. Make sure your vehicle's gas tank is full
  3. Stock up on water
  4. Fill your propane tank(s).  Your grill can be used for cooking
  5. Keep cash on hand in case the ATMs are unavailable
  6. Fill freezer bags with water and freeze them.  The ice blocks will last longer than ice cubes and will keep your refrigerated food cold longer.
  7. Make sure you have smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors that have a battery backup
  8. Have a battery or hand-crank radio, flashlights and lanterns in your home
  9. Prepare in advance a family emergency plan
