Homestead Application Deadline

Attention, residential property owners. Pursuant to Maine Law, you may be eligible for the homestead exemption.

To qualify:

1. 1) You must be a permanent resident of the State of Maine.
2. 2) You must have owned a homestead eligible property for the past 12 months. You may also transfer a homestead exemption from another locality in Maine.
3. 3) You must declare that the homestead is your permanent place of residence. You may not have a homestead exemption on any other property. Summer homes and second residences do not qualify for the exemption.

If you have purchased or relocated to a new home the deadline for submitting your homestead application is April 1, 2018. Forms filed after April 1 will apply to the subsequent year tax assessment.

Property owners who already have the homestead exemption do not need to reapply. However, if there have been changes to your original application we ask that you update your information. For example: if your name has changed or if parties have been added or removed from the deed.
