Get "Petpared" for Disasters

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has scheduled their annual PrepareAthon Day for Thursday, April 30, 2015.  The goal of their campaign is to increase the number of individuals who: 

• Understand which disasters could happen in their community

- Possible disasters/hazards include:  Earthquake, Flood, Hurricane, Tornado, Wildfire, Winter Storm

• Know what to do to be safe and mitigate damage
• Take action to increase their preparedness
• Participate in community resilience planning

To help YOU prepare for a possible disaster, Auburn Staff would like to offer the following FEMA tips to pet owners

• Download a pet preparedeness mobile app: (http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/pet-first-aid-app)
• Build a pet emergency supply kit
• ID your pet with a collar and tag or consider microchipping
• Determine where you would evacuate with your pet as some public shelters may not accommodate animals
• Create a buddy-system with a relative or friend to help each other's pets if one of you is away from home during an emergency
