Auburn Fire Department to Host Annual Open House and New Vehicle Dedication Ceremony - The Auburn Fire Department welcomes local families to a free Open House on Saturday, October 18, 2014, from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. The open house, to be held at the department’s Central Station at 550 Minot Avenue, is sponsored by Papa Gino’s and is aimed at teaching families fire safety and prevention practices.

This year, the Open House starts off at 11 A.M. with a short dedication ceremony to celebrate the addition of the new Engine (Truck 1) and the two new ambulances. The dedication ceremony will include a traditional ‘wet-down’ whereby the new apparatus is sprayed with water from the retiring apparatus. Local school children will be participating in the ceremony.

This Open House commemorates October’s National Fire Safety Month. Participants will receive fire safety tips and have the opportunity to try on firefighter gear. Papa Gino’s, the Dedham, Massachusetts-based pizza chain, will provide free pizza and children’s fire safety coloring sheets. There will also be fire safety information and goodies available for children, along with a bounce house and a free raffle for door prizes. Sparky, the fire-safety mascot, will be visiting the Open House throughout the day!

The Auburn Fire Department wishes to reach out to the community and arm local families with fire safety tips and procedures so that families are better prepared, in the event of a fire emergency.
